Embracing Tradition

In the captivating realm of silver gelatine printing, tradition isn't just a backdrop; it's the guiding force behind everything I do. My work is about precision and purpose—a meticulously planned approach to the print process.

Working with silver gelatin presents challenges; it's inherently spontaneous, and achieving consistency can feel like a rare accomplishment. But I've learned to embrace this unpredictability instead of shying away from it. It's what makes each piece unique, turning chaos into beauty. Navigating the analogue world feels like solving a puzzle, with tradition playing a profound role in balancing spontaneity and structure.

Some of the tools I use carry their own stories, adding layers of significance to my creative process. I like to use a few of my father's old engineering tools, and although I could buy new ones that might be cleaner and more fit for purpose, these tools are weathered with time and serve as a tangible link to the past. They're more than just instruments, they're a connection to generations of craftsmanship.

I'm continually reminded of the timeless nature of the craft. Whether it's shared with future generations or not, the heritage embedded in my work will always bring me joy and fulfilment.
